Soylicious Reed Diffuser Review and Giveaway

About Soylicious:
While working as a manager for a regional craft store, the creator of Soylicious was putting in many long hours, nights and weekends and started looking for a way to make a living without missing out on his family. The craft store sold items to make candles from parafin wax. The first candle he made was horrible and wouldn't even burn, however, with more practice and experimenting, he was able to make quality candles that he sold to friends, family, neighbors, and craft shows until he had two different 'potential customers' that he lost because they only bought soy candles.

After much research on Soy candles, he was able to see many advantages to soy wax from low soot, renewable resource grown by American farmers, and longer burning. During this same time, the children started bringing home fundraiser packets for overpriced, imported junk candles. Around the same time, the creators of Soylicious found out that their second oldest son, who was 9 at the time, had Type 1 diabetes. It was then that they decided to make this a full time business.

At Soylicious we are committed to doing our part for our environment with the following policies:

  • Our candles are made from 100% soy wax from soy beans that are grown in the USA - a renewable resource from American Farmers. Almost no soot compared to parafin wax candles, which are made from oil and oil byproducts.
  • Our wicks are all natural - 100% cotton or wood also producing less soot.
  • Our catalogs and order forms are designed to use less paper.
  • Glass containers are 100% Recyclable (and Reusable)

Our Review:
I was so excited to review a Reed Diffuser. I see them all the time but I had never had one before so I was interested to see how they work and what I thought. The package arrived after a few day delay because they didn't want to ship it without the Black Gift Box it is supposed to come in. Sales were apparently better then expected around the Holidays and so they were waiting on a new shipment of the black boxes to arrive. For me it obviously really didn't matter so much if it had been sent in another box since I was only interested in the product but I am impressed that they wanted every package to be sent out perfectly and to their specific standards even if that meant a few days delay.

As with most products for review when the package arrived I ripped open the box and set it up to see how it worked. I chose the "Love" Reed Diffuser which comes is pink with green and white speckles and the Fall Harvest diffuser oil which is described as an enticing mix of spiced pumpkin, cinnamon, and the flavors of Fall which sounded perfect to me. I unwrapped everything poured about half the diffuser oil in the vase and put the reeds inside. I thought it was very pretty but the scent was very subtle so I wasn't sure if it would work in the room I left it in. I let it sit overnight totally forgetting that I had put it out the night before. Well when I opened the door to the bedroom the entire section of the house smelled like Fall Harvest which really impressed me.

The one thing I am nervous about is that the smell would attract cockroaches and other bugs to come and drink the oil. So far it looks like everything has stayed away probably because it is winter and there really aren't too many bugs around in the first place so I have left it out. I even left it out while we were gone for two weeks and there isn't any indication that a bug had some for dinner. I think I will have to switch it to another room for most of the year but for now it is sitting on the pass through from the kitchen to the living room.
