Happy Aloha Friday

The way it works is you post a short question on your blog and link up each week at An Island Life the hostess of this event so others can come and visit your blog and answer your question. Everyone can post their own question just make sure to keep it family friendly.

Our question for you:Do you have a Hero? Who is your hero? In your mind what makes them a Hero?

Hero is defined as one who shows great courage who sacrifice everything for the greater good, he is stoic, determined, refusing to back down in the face of adversity injury or even death.

What do you call 180 people all knowing that they are exposing themselves to fatal levels of radiation to try and save their country?

They are called the Fukushima 50 because they work in teams of 50 to wage war to take back control of the Nuclear Power Plant. They have said goodbye to their families because they feel it's their mission to help.

But their sacrifice might be even greater then that. News outlets are reporting that older workers are the ones who agreed and asked to stay behind because even if they are exposed to dangerously high levels of radiation it is believed they will die of old age before they would develop cancer many are beyond the time they would consider becoming fathers so whatever exposure levels they encounter will not be passed on to their children in their genes.

To me these 180 are all Heroes. Heroes are people that do something not because it will make them famous but because they think it is the right thing to do. A hero knows they can't do everything to change the world and make it a better place. The Fukushima 50 aren't doctors who can care for the wounded or police to keep order. They know they don't know how to rescue people from under rubble. What they do know are those Nuclear Reactors they know how to heal a sick Nuclear Power Plant and that is what they want to do because it is something they can do. They aren't shaken by the severity of the situation they are facing they push forward one step at a time. It is their way to help and contribute.
