Flying with Your Pet this Holiday Season?

Chloe of DogJaunt checking in at the airport. Safe flight little lady.Be a responsible Pet owner and follow the rules put in place by your airlines and the TSA. Seriously they are there to keep you and your pet safe. Sure we would all love to hold our dog or cat on our laps during the flight but they are so much safer in their carrying bag or crate where they don't have to interact with other people in close tight quarters. You never know what smell is in the air that you can't notice or if something about a person sitting near you will set your dog or cat off and get them upset. Leave the bag or crate closed at all times cover your legs and your pet with a blanket so they can smell you and let your pet sleep under the dark warm blanket. As soon as you get to your destination you can go out to the sidewalk to stretch your dogs legs even before you collect your luggage.

Don't let the following story happen to you thinking you are doing your pet a favor. You are not doing yourself and certainly not your pet any favors by putting them into an unknown situation and then facing legal ramifications.

NEW YORK—A small dog jumped out of its cage and bit a passenger and a flight attendant on a Phoenix-bound US Airways plane on Monday, forcing the captain to make an emergency landing in Pittsburgh.
The dog’s owner opened the cage despite being told not to, said Valerie Wunder, a spokeswoman for US Airways.
The captain of Flight 522 from Newark to Phoenix, carrying 122 passengers, decided to divert the plane because he “wanted to make sure everybody was OK,” Wunder said, adding she did not know whether charges would be filed against the dog’s owner.
Disclaimer: While looking for a picture of a dog in an airplane I came across this awesome picture of our friend Chloe and knew I had to use it. Chloe is the traveling Cavalier King Charles Spaniel we met and fell in love with at BlogPaws. The picture actually came from a guest post she and her mommy wrote for the Burkerts:
