February is Pet Oral Health Month #VOHC

Indiana eating a Greenies chew bone.February is National Pet Dental Health Month. In celebration of the month, The GREENIES® Brand would like to invite you to help us fund vital veterinary dental services to needy pets via the American Animal Hospital Association’s (AAHA) Helping Pets Fund. It requires no financial contribution from you. All we ask is that during February you help us spread the word about important pet oral care information pet owners should recognize.

Here are the details:
Why This Effort? More pet owners are aware of the importance that pet oral health plays in their pet’s overall health and wellbeing. A new study shows that in 2010, 43% of dog owners became more aware of dental health care options for their pet. The study also showed that last year, 77% of pet owners bought dental treats for their pet that they believed to have a positive effect on their pet’s teeth.
While there are tons of dental treats that claim to clean teeth, not all of them are proven to work. Fortunately, there’s an entity administered by the leading veterinary dentists at the American Veterinary Dental College called the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC). The VOHC is similar in nature to the American Dental Association (ADA) but is applied to pet products. Through stringent clinical research and review, the VOHC determines which products on the market are effective on the breakdown of plaque and tartar. The VOHC Seal of Acceptance is an essential way for pet owners to discern how to shop for their pets and provide them with the best in at-home dental care products.

The Campaign.
The GREENIES® Brand is partnering AAHA to support their Helping Pets Fund, a charitable organization that provides financial support for sick or injured pets that are in need veterinary care. This fund makes a wide range of veterinary services available for pets whose owners have either abandoned them or do not have the financial means to pay for treatment options.

GREENIES’® donations will help to provide life-saving oral surgeries for dogs and cats in need.

So how can you help? Just spread the word!

· For every blog post written about VOHC, The GREENIES® Brand will donate $25 to the AAHA Helping Pet’s Fund · For every use of #VOHC on Twitter (either through an original post or a re-tweet), The GREENIES® Brand will donate $1 to the AAHA Helping Pet’s Fund.

Davinia more interested in wearing the bow from the top of the box
We had previously received a Box of Greenies. The box was sent to one of our Reviewers because I know Davinia isn't a fan so I decided that instead of trying to find two different treats for the girls that we should send it to a dog who likes them. The box of Greenies happened to arrive while we were visiting our reviewer so the girls did partake. Davinia wasn't all the interested she did lick the chew bone but didn't seem all that interested in the flavor (which I knew from years ago). Apparently Indiana is a fan and tried to eat an entire Greenie meant for a dog 4 times her size so I had to take it away after she managed to eat over half the bone as I didn't want her to get an upset tummy.
