At the end of the day high stakes show dogs are no different then family pets. They just want to be loved and cared for. Highly competitive show dogs might spend months and months on the road away from the family that loves then but they are never far from their owners hearts and minds. In the case of Hickory that was all her owner was willing to think about throughout her show career.
Hickory's owner was diagnosed with Cancer early in her career but her owner knew Hickory was special and vowed to fight her cancer so she could see Hickory and her handler fulfill their potential together. Hickory's owner will now get to spend more time with her now that she is retired. Hickory will most likely miss her handler now that she isn't going to be shown as often as she is used to but they will be out on the road this summer making guests appearances at shows across the country. But for the most part Hickory the Scottish Deerhound will be able to do the things she loves to do and there is no doubt that she will be loved and doted on for the rest of her life.
