Dogs Rescued from Fukushima Exclusion Zone

Dog being checked for radiationAbout a week ago we posted a link to a video showing a news crew visiting the Exclusion Zone in Fukushima where they were greeted by several dogs who were curious about the noise produced by the new comers. The news crew was unable to take the animals back with them and with people still living in the Exclusion Zone the best thing they could do at the time was leave them there and alert animal rescues of the situation.

Many Animal Rescue Organizations felt that they could not ask their volunteers to go into the Exclusion Zone. Some even created a policy stating that no matter what they would never ask or imply that they needed people to go in and endanger their health and well-being. They knew they were there but in effect they were just beyond their reach to help. Many what ifs crossed Rescuers minds - how long would they stay in the Exclusion Zone looking for animals or gently encouraging them to come to them. What if they were covered in radiation? Did the people living in the area want the animals there and were they able to care for them?

One organization with enough man-power and pull was finally able to go in and get the dogs and possibly cats out of the Exclusion Zone. The video starting at about 1:45 seconds until 3:35 tells their rescue story. The video goes on for a bit and then at 5:20 until the end of the video shows the organizations facilities and the other dogs they are currently caring for. At the end of the video you can see the Black Lab looking dog that was rescued from the Fukushima Exclusion Zone extremely happy to be around people and resting in comfort.
