Be Kind to Animals Week

(Associated Press)
March 1st - 7th is Be Kind to Animals Week

This week has been an annual tradition for 96 years and a means to honor the important role animals play in our lives and to suggest ways to treat them humanely.

What you can do:

  1. Lend your voice and opinion on policies and legislation that will affect the health and well-being of animals, especially companion animals.
    1. This is best achieved by seeking information from multiple sources and on all sides of any issue so we can make informed decisions.
  2. There are stories on a daily basis somewhere across the country and the world about animal abuse. Whether it is horrible mistreatment, dog fights or even hoarding.
    1. Stand up for the animals in trouble. Don't point fingers until you have proof but once you do go directly to the authorities in your area.
  3. Foster, Rescue, or Volunteer for an animal organization in need there are groups out there that help all sorts of animals not just dogs or cats. Find one that you are passionate about.
  4. Share local animals looking for homes with your social circle.
    1. You never know who might be looking to add a new family member.
  5. Appreciate wildlife.
    1. All animals deserve to be treated with respect be it family pets or wildlife. Create an inviting space in your yard and garden for butterflies, hummingbirds and other creatures
