March 1st - 7th is Be Kind to Animals Week
This week has been an annual tradition for 96 years and a means to honor the important role animals play in our lives and to suggest ways to treat them humanely.
What you can do:
- Lend your voice and opinion on policies and legislation that will affect the health and well-being of animals, especially companion animals.
- This is best achieved by seeking information from multiple sources and on all sides of any issue so we can make informed decisions.
- There are stories on a daily basis somewhere across the country and the world about animal abuse. Whether it is horrible mistreatment, dog fights or even hoarding.
- Stand up for the animals in trouble. Don't point fingers until you have proof but once you do go directly to the authorities in your area.
- Foster, Rescue, or Volunteer for an animal organization in need there are groups out there that help all sorts of animals not just dogs or cats. Find one that you are passionate about.
- Share local animals looking for homes with your social circle.
- You never know who might be looking to add a new family member.
- Appreciate wildlife.
- All animals deserve to be treated with respect be it family pets or wildlife. Create an inviting space in your yard and garden for butterflies, hummingbirds and other creatures
