Drug Sniffing Dog Has Big Week

Hondo and handler Mick Dockery in front of a drug bust
Hondo was a very busy dog last week doing what he was trained to do sniff out drugs. Hondo and his handler Dockery work in South Bend, Indiana started their week sniffing out drugs at a traffic stop in St. Joseph County that ended up with Hondo finding crack cocaine under a passenger seat. It is thought that he might have ingested some of the drug, according to a release from Sgt. Trent Smith.

Dockery having been trained in first response for what to do if Hondo accidentally ingested he used hydrogen peroxide to make Hondo throw up whatever he might have eaten and then rushed his canine partner to vet care, where the dog was treated overnight for a rapid heartbeat and a fever. Hondo recovered with no issues and was back out on the street by the end of the week where he helped to find 81 marijuana plants in an indoor growing operation in Mishawaka, police said.

Hondo and his handler were then called out to investigate an enclosed car carrier that contained a 2007 Mercedes S550 and a 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom. Police said 29 kilos of cocaine were found in the Mercedes, with an estimated worth of nearly $1 million at the time of the report police were still searching the Rolls Royce for Drugs.
