#Blogathon Meet Bark Bark

BarkBark is a former Safehouse resident who was adopted in 2003 and has been returned to us after five years. A quiet, sweet, incredibly loving Shih Tzu, this little black and white beauty weighs 11 pounds and we estimate her age to be around 9 years.

Easily startled, very frightened at being picked up without warning, but when you hold her, she will cling to you and tear at your heart with her desperate need for affection and human contact. BarkBark was the victim of severe abuse as a very young pup which left her with a slight permanent tilt to her head. The little tilt gives her an inquisitive look that only adds to her charm. When she came to us in 2002 she was blinded by juvenile cataracts. We were able to provide double cataract surgery with implants and she was fully visual at the time of her adoption.

Unfortunately, BarkBark is once again blind and this time it is permanent. Although blind dogs make wonderful pets they do need some extra care to help make their life easier. BarkBark has adjusted to her blindness very nicely. She is not afraid to explore the world and gets around quite well using her excellent canine senses of hearing and scent. She enjoys the quiet company of another small dog, going for slow walks to explore the neighborhood sounds and smells or just wondering around in the grassy yard on a nice day. BarkBark requires ongoing eye medications to control glaucoma but she is in otherwise excellent health. BarkBark is looking for simple accommodations, a quiet home with a warm bed, regular meals, an occasional walk around the block, a warm sun spot for napping (pillow optional), a lap to snuggle in and loving arms to hold her and let her know she is home once again. BarkBark needs a companion who will love her dearly and provide this wonderful gal with the comfort a sweet little Shih Tzu who has given love and devotion all her life deserves to receive in return.
