#blogathon Meet Buddy the Blind Dog

Buddy photo courtesy of PetFinder Buddy is a Lab/Redbone Coonhound mix with maybe a little Airedale thrown in -- though your guess is as good as ours!

He's young, only about 2 or 3 years old, we think. He's blind, and judging from his outgoing, fearless personality, we suspect he's been blind from near birth. If you watched him zoom around the dog yards, you'd never know he was blind. He has an adorable, sweet face, and he just melts when you pet him.

Buddy came to us through a very interesting set of circumstances:

Buddy and his companion, blind Jake, were scheduled for euthanasia in a western North Carolina shelter when a lady in Washington, D.C., Simone R., found out about them. Simone contacted the humane society and offered to sponsor the dogs if the shelter could place them with a reputable rescue group.

The shelter staff sent the two blind dogs to a rescue group in Nashville, Tennessee, who then – incredibly – turned them over to an animal hoarder. It was only after Nashville's Metro Animal Control raided the hoarder's property and seized Buddy and Jake, along with 60 other animals, that Simone learned what happened to them.

He gets along fine with other dogs, though we've found he does better with female dogs. We haven't had him with cats so we can't tell how he would do. You can definitely tell he's got some Hound in him from his deep, baying voice. Buddy loves to go for walks, but he would be just as happy to lay at your feet.

Please note: Potential adopters need to schedule an appointment to come out to the ranch and visit with the animal and us. Please *email us* if you're interested in adopting. Thank you!
