Sometimes Hard Work and Dedication Pay Off Even at Westminster

Gingery's Sweet Tea "Sugar" with her owner /breeder /handler Bess This is the kind of story dreams are made of. Little girl falls in love with dogs. Mommy and daddy decide she can have a dog. Little girl decides she would like to show dogs as a Junior Handler. Little girl finds a breeder willing to be her mentor and shows her dog at different events. Over the years as she gets older her skills become refined and she is offered better and better dogs to show. With the breeders guidance and her parents permission the little girl bred her first litter of puppies. She took one of those puppies out into the show circuit and really made a name for herself and the puppy all the way to Best of Opposite Sex at Westminster.

The story is obviously not that simple and it took place over several years time. The little girl put in a lot of hard work and dedication into the sport giving up other activities a normal young girl would be a part of to focus on a goal. I haven't seen her in several years but I have followed her dog show career via Facebook and other friends who I met while showing Indiana. Its a long story for some other day how I became so friendly with Chinese Crested people when I was showing a Cavalier.

Her new reality is something that people in the Dog Show world dream about achieving in their lifetime. Making it to Westminster to compete on the green carpet of Madison Square Garden something she has done several times now. But to be able to do that with a bred by dog and take home the distinction of Best of Opposite Sex is a dream not achieved by many their entire lives of showing and breeding dogs.

Congratulations to Bess and Sugar on such an amazing team work a job really well done!
